It's a new year and this hexie making project has been very consuming.  This is the end of Part 6 on Jemima's Creative Quilting Mystery Quilt. As you recall I joined and got to about part 6 on the first one. I will share with you in the coming weeks where my first Hexie Mystery ended up. My garden will start calling me back soon. And this year 2022,  I begin weighing 50 lbs less than I started 2021. What a true accomplishment for me.  This is a very common lunch for me. I started March 16th, 2021 after learning that my mobility was on the line. I learned from MIR that I had two torn tendons in my left ankle. I injured it Feb 2018, fought my doctor over getting an MIR only to be told that I'd be wasteing the tax dollars.  Bottom line, I learned that not all doctors have ethics! Well, I'm sure you have all heard we are in a Global Pandemic and I do present a weakened immune system with asthma during these trying times.  I am staying home. I never really liked shopping in the first place. Really, I know it may sound weird but buying produce and goodies at the open air farmer's market is my preferred way of doing things. If I was buyjng fabric, I love that, but really I don't really need to go anywhere. I am.makinng face masks for my family though. Highly recommend yoh consider making some. I love my sister and she is my all time best support in quilting. I started this quilt center more than 5 years ago, in our lovely woodland riverside property of Northern B.C. I absoloutely love hand piecing, hand embroidery and hand embellishment. This began inside with the heart applique on the rich rust colored satin. Along the way, a little of this and a little of that, I made my way. I have come to realize that I do mostly improv in all my quilting! Easy peasy heart shape filled with strips of a favorite color group. Then I cut the satin fabric away and began filling the surrounding area with crazy bits and stitching. I love taking my quilt tops outside to experience the wind and sun for themselves. This quilt is an easy beginner to crazy quilting block. 

Hello everyone, so glad you dropped by to see what's  happening in my studio! Just a few little things are on the go and some really big things too!  I've called this new pattern "Wood Walk" and its the quilt that it will be the 2nd installment of online workshops starting in September.  This is just the starting photo and this new design that reminds me of the woodsey feel I get when I walk along our very rural road. You can hear the birds just singing away, the green lush leaves on the poplar, willow trees. The saskatoon shrubs are in full bloom, my freezer is waiting for their lovely berries for winter goodness.  Also, what's happening is my tutorial on Camper Curtains. I chose "Chain Links" from the Shades of Grey collection of Daisy Janie. I married the Daisy Janie fabric with an older outdoorsy print of Sue Marsh from Marcus Bros. Inc.  My quilt is done for the Pipeline Art Exhibit around the protest of Enbridge's Proposed Pipeline through pristine wilderness, farms and communities, rivers are our life blood!  My home  is located on the beautiful Bulkley Valley. The rich, alive and responsive Bulkley River runs alongside our river campsite, at our home. I'm so lucky to have such a peaceful, tranquil place to live. We are surrounded by wilderness, ranchers, miners and families. We have plenty of open space, wild areas minutes from downtown Smithers, BC. We have lots of industry, mining and forestry and tourism. We have a few unemployed folks, but most are employed and moving ahead with their lives in the beautiful Bulkley Valley. Unfortunately, The Bulkley River is one of those rivers that you might have heard about that is threatened  by potential spills from crude oil being transported from Alberta tar sands to the BC coastline by Enbridge for freighter trips across the Pacific Ocean. ...

Everyone doesn't know about my favorite non-profit organization, BC Women's Institute , its a  76 yr young women's organization in BC with ties in all of Canada and the world . If you wish to know more about this powerful women's organization, go to this link Our district is the Bulkley Tweedsmuir W.I. and we have a Spring Conference each year held in one of our community's. This year it was the lovely hamlet of Hazelton. Delegates and members attended with our various items for the spring judged competition, this year it was Banana Bread, Flavoured Vinegars, a hanging mobile, recycled hat, handmade framed photo. Well, you may not know this, but some of my friends might think I've lost my mind! Remember, this is the same quilter, namely me that takes a little portable bag of hand piecing in my purse all the time and if a few minutes present themselves.... That's right, I don't watch TV or read loads of romance novels or self help  books. I simply quilt a hell of a lot! Be calm my heart, admitting things are good for me! But admitting that I'm already in the middle of the mega project of my lifetime is another thing! Jeans are a nice clothing item to begin reusing and this is one sure fire way that is a great little gift item. My favorite reuse project is pot holders made from jeans. Here's how you get started! 1. Cut various good sized pieces from the legs of jeans or other denim clothing. 2. Then pair them up and resize so they are the same.  3. Cut two reused or new cotton pieces the same size as your jean pieces. 4. Assemble Process: denim square good side out, down on the table over top, place one cotton square good side down, place one cotton square good side up, then the last denim square good side up. 5. Pin well, sew diagonal seams right over top the  four layers of cloth, leving about 1/2 inch apart. Then before finishing the edges, take scissors and cut alternately a slice through the first layer of denim. They are quite simple, but have a real nice, proper  binding edge with a loop for hanging. I'm a member of a wonderful ladies organization called Women's Institute. Our Quick WI branch has been pretty active, with new members joining all the time. Recently, like many of us, one of our members has to begin cancer treatment.We thought of our dearest friend going through this process. We knew immediately what we had to do, make her a "friendship quilt" to snuggle under when at the hospital.  We all work outside the home or in the home studio and its so close to Christmas, but what the heck, we're on for two Sundays. We laid out the sandwiched 12.5 inch blocks, ready for quilting. We placed a random sewing machine drawing of a 'heart' in each block, then stippled inside the heart on each of the 42 blocks. As we went, we planned and talked, a real quilting bee!  This event was held at Nola's house and we used her husband's pool table to lay it all out on, thanks Ed!
