CQ Winner & The Duncan Farmers Market

Image
Phuef!  Easter is over and it was lovely to visit, eat and share our backyard with family and friends!  But I must admit, the gardening to be done has taken over my life, a wee bit. Its always a push in the spring time to get ready for planting. I had sort of forgotten about how fast weeds invade as soon as the spring warmth returned to the soil.  Without much in the way of freezing temperatures over the winter, I dreamed of the brocolli , kale, and tomatoes to  be grown in my new garden space, but its been kinda soggy here this spring I'd say! Our days have mostly been cloudy with just a rare glimpse or two of sunny skies. And its not so very different from the spring time in the Bulkley Valley of Northern B.C. minus snowy days of rough driving conditions and shoveling snow for sometimes 4-5 months.  And its quite lovely to be able to experience walking without ice. But quite frankly, we've lost the access to the backroads and wild parts o...

"Reuse Confession" Winner! & More parcels!

Image
Hello new friends and followers ~ Welcome to my blog where I'm talking harvesting! I asked the question " What do you do to reuse by making anything from a portion of the whole of an article of clothing. It was my  hope that more folks might admit this fact by helping our fragile blue planet? And some did for sure. I thank you all ladies for your honesty! I was really pleased to hear all the comments left by these engaged women from around the world. I put the names in my husbands cap and he picked our winner who is Emily Carnes!! She wrote this comment as quoted below: " Yay! I am so glad to read this post! I just posted last night about my "new" sweater that I got from my friend who re-purposes wool sweaters into new sweaters and "sweater-dresses". Every time I read the words recycle, upcycle, and repurpose, it makes me happy. We truly do have so much excess, and after all, repurposing worn out clothing and other fabrics is the origi...

Appreciation for Followers Giveaway!

Cloud 9 Fabrics is one fabric manufacturer who seems to  have a great talent at picking awesome collections and they specialize in organic cotton. This one is a unique bundle that I bought a few years ago, so I'm sorry that its dated now, but what the heck, new fabric if new fabric, am I right? When I buy fabric I buy organic cotton, because I know the standard are set up to promote growers NOT using pesticides in the growing of the cotton and the milling, manufacturing has other standards to eliminate the less than desirable chemical use. I've made several with these fat quarters and I love the way they feel to hand quilt afterwards. So soft and seem to be just the right density for smooth hand quilting.  Here in this way I've made the Monkey Wrench block into a really earthy feeling small wall quilt! What you have to do to enter this giveaway is make a comment on my Facebook page here. I'm listed as Caroline Heinrichs, Te...

2012-Crazy Quilts-Fine Scraps Giveaway! Revised

Image
"I've got it, Carli, put crazy quilted center piece into these bags!" my friend Nola is a recent crazy quilt addict and typical of most who discover the joy of crazy quilting. This is the bag she was referring to, that I placed an orphan Dresden plate block in the center area of the bag!   We become addicted!  As I started to get organized for this posting, I started checking all my little  parcels of UFO's that I am constantly working on throughout years sometimes. The photos are all the various bits and pieces of various crazy quilting blocks and projects that have been started, worked on and still yet incomplete!   I take heart that all will eventually be complete and this post will document my process and progress.  Some experimentation by incorporating recycled denim in this one, yet a full concept of my discovery. This is my progress on a green quilt for a family request.  What follows are the close up progre...

Oops, late giveaway chosen!

Image
Sorry and many apologies! I hadn't written this giveaway in my daybook and so it goes, I forgot about it. I'm happy to report that last night, my faithful, loving hubby who rolls his eyes at my blog thing, did the right thing for me and chose between only three entries for Canadian Birds giveaway! We didn't do the random generator online to choose, I wrote the names of the three comments and then he did the 'eenie, meanie, minie, moe" choosing of our kindergarten years and came up with Mike! Congrats, Mike, you have won a meter of the remaining Canadian Birds fabric from the quilt posting here for my hubbies new quilt Canadian Birds.  All the best, Carli

Have you heard? Cloud9 Fabrics is hosting a Giveaway

Image
I'm sure if you are aware, but some of the fabric that I'm using in my studio is from Cloud9 Fabrics. Without a doubt it is the texture of this organic cotton that I love and the colors and designs are stupendous. I made this Sea and Sand last year with mostly Cloud9 Fabric organic prints and organic solid cotton. This quilt is one of my upcoming tutorials. Its very easy and goes together in a flash.  I am a firm believer in using only organic cotton. It just makes sense to me that a certified organic standard cotton is the best to use.  For more information on why they are eco-friendly, click on the link below. http://cloud9fabrics.com/faq.html I really love the Miscellany collection of Cloud9 Fabrics.  I made this lovely little table runner with a Fat Quarter pack. Then when I heard that my husband's office was needing a donation item for their annual fundraising efforts for good causes in the community, I made this baby quilt. ...
