Table Runner's are great and pretty simple to make if using the Improv methods out there in Blogland. This one got started using up left over blocks from  Burkley's Quilt  which I made for my newly minted Grand Nephew. In my learning of how to create these blocks using Sujata's methods of improv methods from her book, Cultural Fusion Quilts. The blocks that didn't quite turn out correctly in my opinion, were the base of this Modern Table Runner. I had no real plan and soon these blocks became a very long table runner and I knew exactly where this new table runner belonged. But more on that later. this is going to be machine quilted today! Yeah!!

I just love it when I get a special commission for a Mom. My client wanted a small lap quilt for her Mom for Mother's Day. The photo transfer via email were sent to me and then onto my special professional that makes photo transfers perfect that last a very long time. I started with bordering each 11 x 8.5 inch Parent photo transfer with gold. Then I bordered each of the children and grandchildren in red and set it all into a grey background. I was playing around before the client picked it up and this is taken inside our RV. I had some restrictions to color red, grey and blue, I added the gold and it was a good choice because the upper top area required something more fancy than the FAMILY name which was done in Gold. I included the variation of square in a square to making it flashy, just a bit.  And here is Mom and Daughter holding the beloved quilt. Thank you C. Happy Quilting, Carli

I did indeed feel some sense of a renewed pride in my quilting abilities. Enough said, I've had a time readjusting to life with a crappy back. Pat will  be really happy to know that this is first whole quilt I've made since the Centennial Quilt. And that I've begun to get back into the love of my life outside of hubby's of course :) Each feather is completely different, more on that in a future post.  And I did take on this quilt with renewed vision and experimental attitude.  I fell in love again with Free Motion Quilting, even though its the ONLY quilting I've ever known. Circles cozy up with barn door triangles. Oh, yes, squared off edges as I exclusively use a quilted section style of quilting, even before it was popular in blog land. I love finding new modern quilters who are doing things I like to read about and of course, when it comes to hexie project, this modern quilter caught my eye. This project comes from "A Quarter Inch from the Edge" out of the Maritimes of eastern Canada.
