I'm linking up with Amy's Creative Side who twice a year hosts this Bloggers Quilt Festival. In the photo below it shows the finished quilt that I made to commemorate our  northern Town of Smithers 100th Birthday! This is my story of what I learned. I have been learning more about quilting since I was 14 yrs old when I met my high school Textile teacher, Miss Hepburn, now Mrs. Summerskill. Unfortunately, she passed away earlier this year and she would have been so impressed that the scrawny tomboy of Gr. 8 had reached new opportunities of learning. I learned from Mrs. Summerskill that no one should tell me what to do. That I should take the time to 'think' and 'plan' and to just be yourself. This was very good advice to a young budding quilter. Its time again for the Blogger's Quilt Festival Fall 2013 hosted by Amy's Creative Side , thanks Amy for doing all this to organize it! I thought maybe, I'd enter my favourite quilt in the category of: Favorite hand quilted quilt Please vote for my Canadian Birds in the category of Hand Quilting. You may have seen this one in past posts of mine and its really a dream come true to have in on my bed all winter long. I'm itching for snow to come, then it can come permanently on the  bed for the winter. My hubby and I have a 'thing' about 'warm' quilts. He's the furnace and I'm the chillin cold feet person. This quilt entitled "Canadian Birds" is my own design, hand quilted by me and it took me about 6 1/2 months of hand quilting in the evenings only, to complete the whole hand quilting. But there is so much more to this quilt. It endured 5 home relocations across one end of British Columbia and many starts

I've happily picked out 16 colours for the triangle pieces for the MOTO QA with The Elven Garden  blog and Jen Kingwell.  I've been listening to CBC Radio from Canada on various topics and quietly hand cut my triangles. But this was not before I took a lengthy read through the tips on accurate hand piecing from  "Playful Patchwork by Suzuko Koseki " review from Playful Patchwork.    I've learned to be exact in cutting out the hand cut triangle pieces. The hand stitching of the piecing went really well, I'm quite happy with this first triangle. Then, all four came together in about 3.5 hrs of hand stitching. So not too bad in terms of length of time to hand stitch. The my camera went on the fritz! I often take my quilts in progress with me when I'm camping.  Summer of 2012 I started up Tropical Punch Crazy Quilt. I love to throw colours together and voila, you've got something that begins to speak to you. Really? Speaking quilts! The quilts tell me what they want, not the other way around. These two sisters are talking the same language! Layered combination stitches greet each other with warm open arms. Imagine, it all started here with a block that is saying, "Carli, I'm naked, I need some stitches to cover up my nudity!" I'm linking up with The Needle and Thread Network! Happy Stitching! Carli

I feel so blessed that we have two sons. I'm thankful for a happy and loving marriage to one man since 1984. for my two kind and considerate sons, who walk the earth now as men and for my girlfriends! I love a round robin quilt-fest! You know where you gather a bunch of quilters, exchange fabric, except this is all online, isn't the Internet wonderful!! And you just make it and quilt along, yeh for quilt alongs. Midnight Over the Oasis by Jen Kingwell . This lovely quilt is the quilt I'm joining up with to make. I fell in love the first time I saw it somewhere on the Internet. Then you know how it goes, other interesting blogs came along and I forgot about it. Then I purchased July/August of Quilt Mania, my favourite quilting magazine. And there it was, the pattern to Midnight Over the Oasis.  This is my assortment of fabrics mostly from Art Gallery Fabrics . I've got a green chunk of Kaffe Fassett and Cloud 9 Organic Fabrics too. As I mentioned in another posting, I've had a rough summer, we refer to it as "The Lost Summer." Really! To add to the already trying times, I had an accident in mid June. I was on vacation and suffered whiplash and a concussion. I know, bummer heh?  Yes, it involved the ambulance and attendants to put me on a spine board, neck brace, warm blankets and a dizzy ride to the local hospital. They transferred me to their local tiny outpost of a Stewart Hospital with awesome staff. I was hardly with it, if you know what I mean. The pain was VERY intense, my head was developing a nice big goose egg, I had a whopper of a headache, my neck, upper shoulders and my back all hurt.  I had to have xrays, I was asked to stand, I couldn't and almost went crashing to the ground if it hadn't been for this tiny Asian female doctor in training, who caught me! Carli Heinrichs, from Telkwa, British Columbia, Canada  I started hand quilting after I attended a quilt show in Washington about 15 years ago while participating with a carpool of quilters from Republic, Wash. I can't remember where it was, but I watched the Governor's Award recipient do her hand quilting demo. I was so amazed and realized that it just took lots of practice. I thank this lady for my start. First up is my precious Altered Magic Tiles, I couldn't seem to just stick with it where the instructions said to stop.  Up next is the mega projects written about in this post "Canadian Birds and Giveaway" which I posted about on July 4th, 2012.  Its on our bed over the winter. This quilt is filled with a light layer of wool batting. It was dense in some places to quilt and easy peasy in others.
