I upcycled all sorts of fabric into my "Beach House Crazy Quilt" and it was selected for the 2013 Quilt Market "Oh, Canada" exhibition in Houston and LA. When I began this blog back in 2007, I wanted to educate about reusing cloth, now called "Upcycling" of all types of fabrics that we didn't normally see in quilts. I love the to play with color, texture and style. But believe it or not, but in 2007, I struggled to have anyone see anything I wrote about upcycling and I did have to make the concession to including more new fabric. This gorgeous table runner sports Dresden Plates handmade from scraps of all ages of printing, some as far back as 1980. These scrappy Dresden Plates sit on a light blue background which is new organic 100% cotton while the backing is upcycled curtain material. Let me humbly apologize, I don't know where the time went since posting this great little giveaway! But I think fishing was involved!! Heehee...  I've been slipping along, floating down the QuiltyJuice River that began flowing with the latest "cutting and more cutting" assault on my Modern Makeover post a few days ago. My vision just sort of melted upon the design wall. I had no real plan for this quilt. Nothing even measured, I just kept a good 1/4 in seam allowance and sewed with Baby Lock Melody machine slowly through all the bumps as seams collided with each other. I mean collided. Collisions like atoms and explosions. I love this freedom! Once the Ta Da moment of finished flimsey came for me, I was out the door so fast that my dog ran into her bed and was still inside when I came home. You see I don't have majestic museums or long sandy beaches to place my quilts up against for a great photo. But I do have our little old timey celebrity of the historic Quick Anglican Church . I choose fabrics which are often not a solid color. Alternately, I rarely choose cotton fabrics. Rarely, do a use a color theme or try to keep my fabric color choices in a set pallet. As you can see I choose wild choices! Let me explain, I see blends, texture and tone all at once. I love the different shapes and lines of this photo. And I celebrate like this happy buda! Such as this shock of expression in this rayon fabric from my various bags of stash materials that make me drool every time I see it. I am always organized and ready to be portable. So I'm super busy on commissions right now and can't share much of it as I always keep the full on shots for after the commission has been delivered and loved. Hello everyone, :) I bet some of you are wrinkling your forehead and wondering what's going on with Carli's blog? Yes, its true, I've been reading, learning, doing an e-course and trying to improve my blog. I know, you've probably noticed that I recently had my own photo on my page. Egads, I must learn how to resize photos. I certainly didn't want "a photo in your face size!!" Sorry :) I  have changed my backgrounds available from blogger several times! I have changed where things are located on my blog and I've written another tutorial and posted that too! Go to my Pages section and scroll down till you see the Chevron Braid. Its the most recent tutorial and a good one. You'll also see that I've made up a cute little advertisement for our property that is for sale and we'd like to sell.  But most importantly, I've decided to start offering workshops. Yes, I know some of you may look at what I've got going on and can't believe that I'll take a respite from the Centennial Quilt. But I just had to, say I felt lucky!   I just love working with the personalized history in t-shirts of my commissioned clients. Recently, Victoria contacted me about making a t-shirt quilt for her....she's off to university! I started by stabilizing each t-shirt with an iron on fusible webbing on the back of each logo to be used. This is where it starts! I spend time thinking about the events that may have contributed to the events portrayed in the logo. I use organic cotton and decided that a 'modern' approach to this quilt was needed. I began with piecing varied backgrounds onto the logos in the colors of hot pink, black, light blue and lime green. As you can see in this photo, the blocks sort of take on a life of their own into sections. This part progressed quite fast. Once all the blocks appropriately start working together, then the sections are created waiting for the backings to be created to sandwiching with the front sections!
