Eucalyptic Dress and Top

I love making my own clothes.

2019 was a year to celebrate with numerous makes of clothing.

As it turned out, my favorite continues to be Megan Nielsen's Eucalyptic Dress and Top.


This top was the 4th I'd made. I used repurposed wide shawl bought at a music festival years ago and just didn't get used. Hence, the top is super lightweight, perfect for hot summer days.
Again, this one pattern has become a favorite. This one is very festive, a mid weight cloth similar to a vintage bark cloth. The white dangle trim is super fun and I get lots of publuc comments when I wear it around town.
Viscose from years ago purchase is vety cool and this one I added a flouncy edge. Love it with jeans!
This shorter dress is also the same, but a different type of fabric that I can't figure out what is. But its a slightly warmer dress, but still a summer weight.
This was my first use of this pattern. I added my own hacked version if facings instead of the double fold binding called for in the pattern. 

I have posted a few of these dress/top makes on my Instagram feed. Are any of you exploring Instagram? I know @oquilts is happening there and we do love sharing our fast posts of interesting things.

I just checked the laundry and found 2 more of Eucalyptic Dress that I've been wearing this year so far. And I think this pattern could be awesome winter jumpers with pockets too.

    Nice work. Everything looks so summery. I need to get busy and make myself some summer things. I used to make all my clothes, now I just quilt. I guess that's not bad, I just need to do more.

    Nice to have a wardrobe that is strictly your own. I sometimes wish I was a 'clothing sewer' but I just can't bring myself to do it. I remember, years ago, that there was a company that specialized in creating patterns that were customized to your measurements...don't know if they still exist. The extent of my clothing sewing has been to take in our entire summer wardrobe of tops/tshirts to reflect our weight loss. Hated every moment of the process but alas there's no clothing shopping going to happen here for a long time (and by clothing shopping, I mean a thrift store trip!).

Some of my days of late have been drafting, measuring, pressing, sorting and the like. I stumbled on a very organized-Value-Village-COVID-19 in Nanaimo. I glove-masked up and went in. Lots of decent, reasonable priced for a retail market. Maybe I'm just forgetting prices but these prices in VV and other "thrift shops" are becoming unreasonable for many seniors and low income folks to afford. The pricing seemed higher than previous times. Leave me your comnents below. I felt suddenly without much blue or green in my stash. Sashiko Sockeye Bowls

My start was all 'high hat' style of course and then my life changed dramatically with one phone call. I got a new job! So as the days that I'd scheduled for work on this little project blog tour participation dwindled with chaotic new work schedules, the drama increased!  My plan was to create a new piece with Carol's Bowls With Borders paper piecing. Where I live is a constant influence in my art, my life and my choices for recreation. In the photo above, I actually hand sewed the paper piecing. I bet that is a first! They turned out really well, but the hand stitching wouldn't let me tear away the paper. I imagined a modern piece, the graph paper told me so and I continued. I free hand drew my version of a sockeye on the back side of iron on stabilizer on red linen.  I am a fisher as you all know by now! A little bit of stitching...

We are helping to tidy up my father in law's home and get him settled into a new home. Its tough, not easy to deal with and we are trying our best to hold down all that we have going on. But thank you for all the kind comments on my spring posts, its been kinda dismal in terms of my stitching, nothing really new, just a bunch of little pages for my weight loss journal. The following pages are some of what I've been mindlessly stitching out the stress of these times. Rusty is aging fast and this is a common view of Rusty whenever we find a shady spot to sit and watch the waves come in. She is 14.5 yrs old this year. We are taking time in small bites to reset our extra busy-ness this summer, elder care and a wedding, its way too busy. Happy quilting everyone. Carli
