TIny Studio's

My whole studio comprises of 7 by 10 small room.
When I googled "Tiny quilt studios" I found a gazillion of Pinterest sites that deal with all the latest trends of small studio apartments all the way to some pretty large 'tiny studios' and it got me thinking.

I share this tiny space with a washer & dryer, hot water heater, pressure tank, ultraviolet and filter water filtration system and a laundry sink.n This is totally efficient and frugal in space use. In fact this home is only 1200 in total, all one layer, with few steps, its a perfect retirement or first home buyer property, you know?

In the summer time, I spend hours sitting in the shade down by the river stitching, its only a few short steps from my tiny home and its a perfect socializing place for our neighbourhood parties!

Plus, its on the Bulkley River, now if you are a fisherperson, then you'll know how special it is to live on one of the best wild steelhead rivers in the world. We couldn't be happier with this lovely place to live.

I've long dreamed of making that upper room into a large and gorgeous quilting studio!
But mostly, its a Man Cave and very much that and somehow quilting studio's don't go with that in this case.

I have a few things on the go right now that can't be shared, but this is also on my list of things to do.

Now, if you want to visit a very cool, organized and much larger studio, but Jackie calls it tiny, you decide?

This next link is my favorite and one that takes a while to read, but its an awesome story of the various places this quilter moved around in her home and how it all began to come together, great read and lots of great photos!

Enjoy, happy quilting everyone!

  1. Oh my goodness - after seeing those two studios I am doing nothing but drool! Alas, I am stuck with using our 'spare' bedroom, complete with pull-out couch, and the computer desk. Very much smaller than that of these two spaces!

    1. I agree, drooling is still happening. Have you been to Pinterest and search tiny studios, oh Lord! Thanks for this comment, much appreciated!

  2. Interesting post - wow you do have a wee space, how clever to extend it to the grand outdoors when you can; that looks like the perfect sitting and stitching spot. Thankyou for the links too :-)

    1. Hi Raewyn! Thanks, I'm glad to share the drooling spaces of larger studios. I totally enjoy the outdoors here, in the summer, I put on bug dope and stitch away, such good times and more to come next year!

  3. From your work, no one would guess you share space with a washer/dryer, hot water, etc. My garage is still a work in progress which was the first intent with this house but I thought I could use the basement so I tried-didn't work. Too claustrophobic and didn't like the steps so work wasn't enjoyable. I keep my camera on a tight shot so the surroundings aren't showing. I guess slow but steady. We have to work with what we have, don't we?

    1. Yes, we have to work with what you have and reno's can only come along when funds might be available. Its hard to live on a pension!

  4. I love your studio and your home photos.
Isn't that the most challenging thing, to work with what you have and not wait around for 'perfect' to show up?
I think when you get busy with what you have, 'perfect' sneaks up behind you.

  5. Thanks for the links and the tour of your home. It's lovely. My sewing room is small, too, but I like that I can close the door and work in progress.

    1. Yes, my door is closed less and less these days, I love the music my hubby makes right next door!

  6. It's amazing how quilters can work in the space they have. My sewing space is our (former) family room off the kitchen, but my design wall is down the hall in the spare room (only place I could find an empty wall big enough), and my mid-arm machine is in the master bedroom (again only space large enough). But it works, that's all that matters.

    1. Thats right, we can't have perfection when life is happening! Thanks for this little catch up, maybe we'll see your various rooms soon!

  7. I love the pictures of your house. Your sewing space may be small, but how wonderful to have the river to work by.

  8. Thanks, we're very lucky to own this property. I rarely see anyone else on the road, unless we're out there with hockey sticks in winter playing skinny!
