Having Fun with Squares

Image
I'm using scissors and hand stitching for all the quilting I'm doing these days. Happy little squares cut from one cotton block is how all my squares are getting done. Circles with tin foil completes the easy circles.

Hexie Flowers Sprouting

Image
I'm really looking forward to getting started on Karen's quilt along and I'm clearing the way. I find Hexie Flowers very relaxing to do! And you can see I've got a bunch to put into something funky. I will wait for Karen's quilt along, so I can have a little help along the way. This is  what started to form a few months ago. Random scrappy chunks of fabric that called to me. That is a poor photo on a rainy day. I continued. When time allowed, I took out my hexie bling bag, which simply is a "Very Bling Bag" that became my portable carrier for hexie supplies. I fit right in at any function in Victoria.  I'm working on workshops for guilds to promote myself as an instructor.  This what I played with today! I was taken with the sense of freedom I felt as I laid these blocks onto what was a slight pink print background. Wild abandon comes to my mind. Something like getting wiser? But I couldn...

Circle Sharing for Quilty 365

Image
I've been very busy these days and another fun project is coming along- my circles! I'm just not staying with the exact version of a circle. I am going to other versions of circles and I love the idea that someone else is doing this kind of free form circles in this Quilty 365 from Kaja of Sew Slowly Blog. I'm even mining all my photos not previously shown online. I am thinking about even photos into circles and placed in the quilt. I'm not sure on all parts of free form I'm leaning toward. I hesitate long enough to sleep on it. This family photo from decades ago show the potential. Even the simple wagon wheel goes doesn't it? This can easily be made into a circle right? Check out the patterns of circle quilts at Geta Gama. And you can see her almost daily post at her blog. The resulting quilt of your own ideas can be really special and why not make more quilts of your own design? Takin...

Alberta Sunset Delivered

Image
Alberta Sunset art piece is complete, 44 x 38 inches, machine thread painting with hand dyed fabric, multiple threads some variegated and solid colors too. Hand delivered to my client. She and her husband were thrilled, seeing their photo replicated in fabric. I'll be assisting with the installation of this art  piece. I've been taken care of like a member of the family! My own suite, meals and getting to know my client! They like to get to know emerging artists! What a treat.

Log Cabin- Hand Stitching Tutorial

Image
I just love to play with fabric and seeing that my life is swerving and growing faster than I ever thought possible, but I'm excited and want to tell you about it. These blocks are a finished 12.5 in. square.  This version is for hand stitching or machine stitching the fast and random way. Start: various dark print or solid strips WOF x 1 1/2 in. I leave all strips WOF throughout the hand stitching, I don't pre-cut into assigned lenghts. Various light colored print or solid strips WOF x 1 1/2 in. I cut random 1 1/2 in. squares in one color.  Usually I use a red color print to pay homage to the original tradition of the red color in center represents the hot fire of the hearth of the home. Then light color prints in 1 1/2 in. sqaures to begin each block. Stitch a series of two 1 1/2 in. squares together with a simple running stitch as shown in all photos. Finger press or press to the dark side with iron. Keep adding s...

Circles that Charm

Image
I had done a few quilty items in circles when I discovered  "Quilty 365" late last year. I do love how life goes around in circles. I'm realizing I have a thing for cirlces! Dresden Circles. Blanket stitched circles too! Street art going in cirlces! Happy Quilting!

Taking a Few Stitches

Image
I love a Dreseden Plate quilt right up there with Log Cabin quilts. This one is coming together rather slow, but its feeling very organic as I've slowed down and calmed my creative spirit. Thanks to the movement of my followers or should I say to the "evacuation" of followers from this blog. I felt sad to see them go,but what can you do. I can't please or be attractive to everyone! Life and art are not meant to be carved out daily like machines! Taking the stitches as they come, watching them prance peacefully with happiness in their step across my work is a joy! Go in Peace.
