Remake Handmade-Memory Quilt Workshop

Image
Hello to all of my faithful readers! Thank you for continuing to read my blog. This is Chapter Thirteen-Remake Handmade. I'm counting backwards because my little bloggy spot is approaching 500 blog posts. WOW! The photo below describes some of what I love to do, which is river fishing with my hubby of 32 years. He took this photo of me when doing the 2nd thing I love to do, hand stitching! These chapters are a way for me to search out my own roots in the crafting I do and asking myself is this what I thought it would be like, some ten years down the way? Back in 2007 when I started this blog, I knew nothing about blogging. I did it in secret. My friends and others thought me a little 'weird'.  Eventually, most of them began to realize that blogging didn't mean me sharing everything we discussed or worked on in the privacy of our  homes, as just girlfriends! You know, right, who would do such a thing without consent! Its been this blog, Good ...

Quilt As You Go- More Methods

Image
Well, I thought most people already knew about QAYG, but apparantly not! When I posted that brief and not at all totally finessed tutorial  at this link. I've used this method for piecing crazy quilts since I made the first one, it seemed to work really good and so then I adapted it to my T-Shirt quilts and many others. I'd been really encouraged by the comments I recieved and so I went looking for others who block there quilts for machine quilting and then using QAYG for joining. So first up is the popular British quilter Little Island Quilts.  If you start using this method, you'll be joining at least quite a few quilters out there who don't really care if the whole quilt is perfectly machine quilted with all the little feathery things lining up. That's just the whole enchalada isn't it, it about 'crazy' as you go rather. Everyone it seams has a different way entirely! This quilter even has a class on Craftsy, go here if you'd like...

Starting Things into strings....

Image
After the memorial quilt on Sunday, I took a look outside and it was pelting rain, so inside sewing was the course of events for me. I have started a string quilt. Yes, its not too complicated, which is what my brain is saying it needs! I pressed some of the chunks before cutting them into strips and I began. But I just had to share one more random shot of blooming flowers!! And cute driftwood bird houses, how cute is that. When I make a string quilt, I usually do the QAYG method to cover off the FAST way to a finished quilt. This might turn out to be a table runner, but who knows at this point. So do the QAYG method, you'd need to have squares of backing and batting pre-cut so you can just fly away making up pre-quilted blocks. Then I lay each new strip down and sew another right beside it until the whole square is covered, then trim to the size of your original square. Then when its all done on each 5 inch square, the...
