Crazy Quilting-Modern Maybe?

Image
Unbelievable! Its already mid July, almost and soon fall will  be knocking on the door! But that only really applies to all of us who live in the northern hemisphere. So I've been taking advantage of camping trips on my days off.  Of course I've been working on last summer's crazy tropical project! I love the warm colours in this latest project. We took a trip to Stewart, B.C. a small port town tucked into the northern coast of B.C. The size of the Cow Parsnip was amazing! This photo is close up, but they are over my  head in height. The glacier was stupendous and its right there so close to the viewing area, which is a simple pull off the windy road. Little Stewart is a bit like a historic town with a small amount of modern conveniences available.  Here is the modern approach to my newest crazy quilting. I'll show you more as the project proceeds. Besides, blogging cannot possibly compete with fishing!  Off to more camp...

My Life is CraZy!

Image
I stand with my hands on my hips, the garden is in and organized, the sun shone all around me, as I listened to the sweet sound of songbirds.  1. I'm hand quilting a king size quilt, with a deadline of June 30 to add it into the local quilt show! As of today, I've still got three borders and two corners to go. I started in late December 2011. 2. As the leader of the pack of artists who have rallied around making a once in a lifetime quilt, the deadline for all the artists to have their block handed in to me is June 30th also!  I'm not showing the blocks yet, just the one I'm making and this is it. Its a bust of Sir Alfred Smithers who our  main town of Smithers is named after. He was in the employ of Grand Trunk Railway and assisted in the completion of the railroad which helped promote the growth and development of Smithers in the Northwest BC region. For more information, you can visit our local http://bvmuseum.com/  I'm not a 100% happy wit...

Volunteer Efforts Come in All Sizes!

Victoria of Bumble Beans Inc. from New York City lists this lovely tutorial of a star block paper piecing called Triangles Galore! on her blog. I fell in love at first site! I was inspired to paper piece again, just like that, I was busy photocopying again. Victoria is a very generous person, as she inspires quilters new and experienced to embrace our inner voice to find peace and calm. She teaches others to quilt that need a comfort hobby to sooth their tangled nerves.  I can relate to this philosophy, stitching after all was my literal salvation as a child. My mother was often away at hospital. I grew up for many years thinking hospital was a holiday place for "Mommies"! My mother was always happy again after a visit to the hospital. She taught me to sew by hand. I grew into embroidery and started with making doll dresses. I was intrigued from the beginning of sewing and have never left it. Playing with fabric was and remains to be an important c...

Living and Quilting in the North

Image
Our area is spread out, we're all living within the area of British Columbia that is full of rich natural resources. Our garden helps with growing fine, fresh produce each summer. We are Canadians and other nationalities who sometimes live here full time, sometimes part time and most recently, we're becoming a baby boom town of new families.  This photo was taken during the summer of 2003 when forest fires plagued our province and we had one during this late summer. This is the size of fish we catch every year in the various rivers around our beautiful Bulkley Valley! This photo is actually of me, catching my first 37 lb spring salmon in 2004. It was a rainy day, but we're prepared for just about anything and we tough the elements out. The families and quilters who make this area their home also are farmers, loggers, snowmobile riders, hockey players, rodeo riders, school teachers etc. We are very lucky to have a wide variety of wilderness opport...
