Maps Challenge Round-a-Bout

Image
My Maps Challenge over at AHIQ is coming along, but with a significant twist. I've lost all track of time and I've missed this area of focus on the AHIQ site. The Spring Block  From here I was thinking trails and roadways that intersect with treed landscapes. I like the way that these look like birch trees, but they left me kinda of flat and my excitement of these blocks left me.  I was left with trying to interpret the vision I had in my head again and again. I failed again and again in my color pallet. I struggled and like many of you, when the struggle became a chore, it had to go! Reminder to my readers that I take the choice of not buying new fabric seriously.  So this means that for me, I must make use of the prints, textures and colors I have in my stash. Its insanely presumptious of myself to think that continued buying of new fabric somehow didn't affect the world's pollution. It does in a minute way, but I'm still guilty of consuming,...

Love on the Road Trip to Winnipeg

Image
Our vacation began with a ferry ride when you live on island. My hubby and I had a bucket list of sorts for this trip. He grew up in Winnipeg. So he had some sweet places that still exist and don't show up these photos. They are private to he and I. The photo above gives you an idea of the depth of some of the canyons passing through the Duffy Lake highway into Lillioet, B.C. It was our first stop. We travelled east along parts of Trans Canada Highway, but spent time mostly going back roads, seeing country new to our eyes. Having grown up and lived all my life in British Columbia, its no secret that B.C. is in my blood. The Canadian Rockies spell beauty of unimaginable scenes of mountains, valley's and interesting rock formations like the Shale Rock. Alberta was a busy section and we scurried into Saskatchewan heading for Grasslands National Park . This was poor planning on our part that we didn't know the way through the park is on a road tour tha...

Crazy Heart Quilt Progress

Image
Crazy Heart CQ started some time ago. Truth be told I had begun the inner 'heart' while I was mulling over getting started on the Smithers Centennial Quilt which was the early days of 2012. How time flies! I decided again this spring of 2017 it was time that 'Crazy Heart' found a home and direction. I had originally used some fringy braid that was hand sewn around the outside edge of the heart. But when I reviewed this peice, the fringy braid had to go. It was this initial start to remove the fringy braid that I realised underneath the braid, the heart was simply hand sewn with a light hand. The new trim I chose to use was brown and black varigated wool. I did a quick and rustic whip stitch twice over to couch it down to the center of the quilt. I have been working on this quilt in hopes of getting it done for my sister's birthday, but missed that deadline and so it goes. But only time will tell me when its done! In the meantime, here...

Crazy Quilting Update

Image
Hello all of my quilty friends! I have been out of touch for a while and lots has been happening.  We have moved to the South Island and have listed our home in Smithers. We sold our RV and we bid farewell to a shelter well spent! I first featured the quilt below in spring of 2015. With completion date met, the owner refused to take possession of it. I was shocked to say the least. I was left with no other recourse to have small claims court for the full payment of this quilt. Serving legal papers took steely nerves on my part and finally after three tries, I managed to serve the owner and I sped away at a high speed. My friend took the brunt of that served papers and that brought more heartache and worry.  But the buyer, who paid only half, had more dollars to spend on lawyers to defend why she shouldn't pay the full amount. From my standpoint I've been ripped off in such a sad way. This quilt was first commissioned to me in the fall of 2014 with ar...

Catching up on Quilty 365

Image
Hello folks! Happy Summer to everyone.  I feel like I've been dwelling inside a mushroom lately with all the family stuff going on, its been a tad busy! But you knew, sooner or later, I'd be back in the saddle again, blogging and designing again. I want to share the various mumbling I've had over the past months and all the craft related fun I've been having anyway! This new shrug of mine looks  better on me, but I'm not so hot taking photos of myself yet. So you get the idea. I found the pattern in 2016 Spring issue of a crochet magazine bought at The Wool Shop in Victoria and sadly can't connect with that magazine right now, so I can't share the designer. This shrug is very easy to do and lovely to wear, very snugly and its adjustable to fit your measurements.  If you click on the link on the word shrug, you'll visit a site with loads more of crochet patterns that keep calling me back to crochet. Also, you can visit the page in ...

2015 In Review-wow!

Image
Hi everyone, I can see that everyone is a busy little elf right now!! Such fun! I decided to do a Year in Review as suggested by my son.  Burkley's Quilt  39 x 54 in. Bat Girl Goes Out 31.5 Square Clever Embroidery Series was a total hit. Wendys Quilts and More does beautiful cross stitch and so much more! I finally completed earrings and necklace in return for a donation of beads in turquoise from Zenia Rene. And I've continued writing my Artisan Crazy Quilts book due out in the New Year. I'll be joining up with Faeries and Fibres for her 2015 EPP Quilt Along.  i urge you to visit Karen's blog to see her mouth watering EPP goodness for any further encouragement to become a follower and join us. As I was constructing this last blog post of 2015, I learned that I've done a lot more quilting this year and that means my quality of life has improved as my doctor put it, less pain equals a happier Caroline. ...
