Textile Learning Moments

I made this quilt back in 2002. Made from men's pant material harvested lovingly. And some plain men's work style shirts. I tied and it would still be around if someone hadn't taken in on  date and spilled coke all over it. It was thrown into a lake to 'clean'it and no one thought to ask about wool pant materials or the best way to wash it. Sour faces brought it home and with heavy hearts they handed it to me without too much crying. Shit happens and I learned a fair thing. Don't make and then call quilts Camper Quilts then others think they are hardy and can be washed like another other cotton material. I'm sure you've got some stories like that, if it hadn't been for my inexperienced upcycler habits that I included teh red/black tartan, it would still be in use. Instead the wool tartan shrunk and everthing around it came too. Rumples, canyons and wired twisting occured after the lake experience. I was ahead of the MODERN quilting curve back in 2002...

Quilting for Others

Did you ask the right questions? Has your customer flown off to Africa now and can't be reached. Did they want a blue background or a brown background for their Mother's hand made Dresden Plates?  Even if all you are doing is the hand applique, you must have a realistic hourly rate to quote to a potentia...

Crazy Quilting Community

Early last winter, I decided to check into the Google + communities and was surprised to find no one had started a page for crazy quilting. And so, that is how I became an owner of this community- Crazy Quilting Community. Now, onto the reason why I started the community? I have spent loads of time looking around and seeing who is doing what. I have come to find some dedicated crazy quilters and many of them are doing lots of gorgeous embroidery. For me, its all about the embroidery. Really it is. But embellisment is really a super individual choice on what is used and how. I tend to gravitate towards those crazy quilts with more hand embroidery than frilly embellishments. I know you'll love joining up and posting on my new Crazy Quilting Community Page. And its growing so fast, its amazing how fast one of these grew really! So some small rules are in place. I didn't want to restrict people from sharing what they are working o...
