Modern Makeover UFO

Image
I just love the action and creativity that comes when I'm stumped and I just let go..... Do you ever do your creative process this way. It must come from the deeper side of my quilting, the one of a kind quilts I make for clients. Remember this quilt, really it was going nowhere fast!! 'Into the garbage' were the thoughts I had several times as I stored, refolded and buried this quilt. I just didn't like it and that doesn't happen often. But as the desire to finish things became an obsession whilst doing the canning and harvesting of garden produce! Its amazing, it must be the awesome work done by my chiropractor! I'm feeling less pain everyday and this provides new energy. I simply started by cutting off the four blocks surrounding the hexies. Then came the next round of cutting, I went crazy cutting over two blocks at a time. Then I created new fabric in a round about crazy fashion in 5 inch strips. It was fun start...

Chevron Border Complete - [Midnight Over The Oasis]

Image
Phew , this has been a stretch for me to complete this and attend to the commission art pieces being requested for Christmas! But luckily I had made up Chevron Braid pieces for the completion of my Summer Dresdens and then didn't use it and when I put these together on my new design sheet I new right away it must be. I think it looks really cute and add's a new twist to this quilt version for anyone else who might want to do something unique into any pattern. As you may have understood about me and Good Earth Quilting; we love to recycle and its not only from our new fabric scraps, its from clothing, vintage mostly and I love the old fashioned 1970's corner background fabric for the 4 corner blocks. I used these pressing bars in all the applique vines on the flower border! I am total fan of these Quilter's Press Bars. Here's why: The perform a great function of using up scraps in 12 inch lengths and so you can make your bias vine on any...

Centennial Progress-Wet'suwe'ten Family Home-Updated

Image
Working on a quilt that celebrates the history and development of a community in British Columbia cannot be complete without the recognition of the first indigenous people who called the Bulkley Valley their home, their territory. I'm talking about our Aboriginal neighbors, the proud Wet'suwe'ten people, who without their peaceful acceptance, the Town of Smithers would not be here today. These lovely people are the original inhabitants of this country. The Wet'suwe'ten Nation still populate a large area from the modern day communities of Hazelton to Burns Lake and beyond, they live, fish, go to school and are growing as a nation.  The modern day name of Wet'suwe'ten really means "People of the Wa Dzun Kwuh River" and different spellings of this name, history and so much more, can be found on Wikipedia's site here. The elders of the Office of the Wet'suwe'ten, who have an office building in Smithers, graciously gave...

New Design on the wall "Wood Walk"

Image
Hello everyone, so glad you dropped by to see what's  happening in my studio! Just a few little things are on the go and some really big things too!  I've called this new pattern "Wood Walk" and its the quilt that it will be the 2nd installment of online workshops starting in September.  This is just the starting photo and this new design that reminds me of the woodsey feel I get when I walk along our very rural road. You can hear the birds just singing away, the green lush leaves on the poplar, willow trees. The saskatoon shrubs are in full bloom, my freezer is waiting for their lovely berries for winter goodness.  Also, what's happening is my tutorial on Camper Curtains. I chose "Chain Links" from the Shades of Grey collection of Daisy Janie. I married the Daisy Janie fabric with an older outdoorsy print of Sue Marsh from Marcus Bros. Inc. Of course, I should have known that I had not recently cleaned my sewing machine and...
