My Garden is blooming Hexagon's!

Image
At our home, the Bleeding Heart is in bloom. We have two gardens, one in the lower garden which shows you the garden development and most of this went in the ground on May 18th Canadian Long Weekend. This photo shows the garden early into the growing season of the fabulous Northern valley. In our area, we can get an overnight rare frost so, we keep cloches and veggie covers handy.  Our front garden has another little growing climate all its own, dryer soil and has had lots of previous years composted chicken manure. This year not any other than a slight covering of compost on the strawberries patch in the heavy green leafed area to the right of this photo is our strawberries patch. My husband is notoriously camera shy, shows only his moccasin-ed feet and blue pants at the top of the screen below. We are very happy to be back gardening, even though you need to have bug dope on most days until around the beginning of July, then its almost a rare occurrence, s...

I'm changing my scrappy mind!

I began the work of completing "A Dresden Summer." Go to my tutorial on Freestyle Dresden Plate Fan here. here. I played around a bit with the creation of the Chevron braids that originally were to encircle the center portion with the 4 Dresden Plates. But when it was all said and done. This left me feeling like a bit overwhelmed with too much colour. I felt the outer border braids took all the love from the Dresden Plates. What do you think? So I decided to give A Dresden Summer a better presentation. I have so far added another inner border   I chose a deer scene print. I didn't have more of the lemon or the beige check print, so I improvised! Now, I'm setting it on the other side of my room to view while I work on other projects. Tell me, would you continue with the bright outer border of the Chevron Braid? Carli

Whats on my bed?

I thought this idea of recording whats on your bed to be a great idea. After all, we're all quilters and do have the best hobby in the world! Quilting. This is my Grandma's Garden quilt that is on my bed most of the winter, its lined with wool batting, washing this is a production, but well worth it. No, it was not handed down from a great granny or anything like that! I found this quilt on Ebay and purchased it for $25 including shipping from somewhere in the USA. So sad that someone didn't want it, its all hand sewn together and hand quilted. Its a king size plus, so there is lots of quilts for everyone in the bed. This means, I don't hog the quilt anymore!:) All the best, Carli
