A little rural stitching and gardeing!

I'm outside lots this year and it feels so good to get outside and play in dirt!! Spring is here and we're  busy outside with gardening and camping! I can't remember if I have already posted this, but these two wall quilts are made by me for my friend Myrtle. Myrtle hand beaded the owl and flower, both of these are going to Myrtle's grand-daughters. Lots quad riders checking out the river a few weeks ago. No more ice on the river, just its usual spring run off water event as in the little ditch run off by Quick Station Rd. Then new stuff with angels in mind is on my design desk . And I'm finishing up a Christmas gift for my son, Jon as in the photo below! So this is all for me today. I'm linking up with Needle and Thread Network. Happy quilting and gardening folks! Carli

Victoria of Bumble Beans Inc. from New York City lists this lovely tutorial of a star block paper piecing called Triangles Galore! on her blog. I fell in love at first site! She taught me to sew by hand. I grew into embroidery and started with making doll dresses. I was intrigued from the beginning of sewing and have never left it. Playing with fabric was and remains to be an important c...

Sometimes, life is so fragile and so lively all at once! The phone rang, I picked up the receiver and heard my fellow Quick W.I. member's voice. Auktje is on the other end of the phone and has something to show me. I decided that is must be important as this 89 year old wouldn't call just to chat. Its not her style.  Our matron member Auktje Oosteroff, her years of active involvement with Quick W.I. dates back several decades, she was a member in Holland before immigrating to Canada.   I dropped what I was doing and drove over on a sunny day to have tea and gluten free cookies in her lovely country home. This lady may look elderly, but we are all going to be there someday. I missed a prime photo hung on her wall, her prize she pointed to on the wall, a lynx rug! The photo of her holding her prize and the dead lynx speaks volumes of the kind of life many W.I. women live in rural Canada. Auktje is a crocheter extraordinaire, her home is well...
