Modern Makeover Finish!

Image
Hello, folks!  I'm really happy to have this little quilt all finished up and I delivered it yesterday to my friend Myrtle. As you all know by now, that this quilt was an issue of what to do with it from when I decided it just wasn't' working for me.  I'm not wasteful and enjoy the challenge of taking risks in my designs. i believe that if you just hate the finished quilt, it can always become an awesome doggie quilt! I took a risk to cut the small quilt top apart and start fresh like It seemed to take on a new life, one that was guided by another hand. I meditated on this risk and adopted the motto from WW 2 "Stay Calm and Carry On" I was feeling pretty happy the day I took these photos at one of our local United Churches. This lovely little church has so much local history and it resides at the end of St. John the Devine Church on Quick West Rd in Telkwa. When hand quilting began, I was some what overwhelmed for a few days...

Hello my quilty friends! Wow, the technology we use sometimes comes back to haunt us! This whole loss of photos on several of my recent posts I believe were my home computer and my phone just not talking to each other.  I'm sure you've all been there in some way or another? I know all of you, who are all over the latest technology upgrades etc and etc. You are younger than I and I just want to use the darn technology, not have to have a degree in technology otherwise, its all for not! Have you all noticed that those of us over 50 actually do have a vote. Hopefully, you'll continue to follow my blog even though I'm done with changing between photos taken with my phone and those taken by my own camera. It's really quite exhausting to try and keep up with all the changes required for cell phones. So simply said, I'm not taking photos anymore with my phone unless its an emergency! I'm going back to my perfectly good digital camera. As you ca...

Hand Quilting Modern Makeover

Image
Last night it was a little crazy weather time. High winds, blowing snow and then we lost power. We had no Internet last night or today either. So please enjoy my little wee post. And I've had such lovely comments from soo many people, it's a humbling feeling to read what others think of my work. It is work to me. With getting used the various back issues that have suddenly arrived in my life, I do more sitting. I know that sitting is all the biggest threat to health, but what is a person to do? I work hard on making myself feel valued and cared about and this blog does serve that feedback loop of friends and sisters from far away who enjoy what I do. Thank you to all the various sisters I have around the world, thank you!! Happy slow quilting has become my new mantra!

Modern MakeOver-Hand Quilting

Hello quilters, wherever you are, I hope it's lovely outside! Today, I awoke very early in the morning and our cabin was a little chilly. The woodstove warmed up the inside really fast and I sat down to a coffee and a hand quilting project. I've decided to do hand quilting because this quilt has so much cream solid color in it and I thought it would be really fun to make the dark areas pop up. I've added a 5 inch border of cream solid colored cotton to the borade and now those crazy blocks just popped! But for some reason that photo will not load! I'm linking up with Needle and Thread Network today! Happy Quilting Everyone!

Canada Blogathon-Hand Pieced Log Cabin

I just love hand work of any kind. When I considered participating with Sew Sisters Blogathon Canada, I wanted to invite anyone who wants to sew, anyone who sews into the joys of quilting. I aspire to become a slow quilter. For me this is where sewing is best empowering to anyone, even those who don't have a sewing machine can sew. Simplicity is where my mind spends time. Using up fabric from clothing, from antique blocks hand sewn by another and miraculously find their way into my hands. Many of you follow this blog and the hand work of embroidery that I do to inspire your own work in whatever form that takes.  This inspires me and around we go. Sew Sisters shop located in beautiful Toronto, Ontario is a shop that is bricks and mortar as well, its an online shop for our pj's shopping experience. For me, living so far from everything, I drool over the kits and fabric supplies offered at their shop.  It takes a bunch of time and effor...

Canadian Birds {Blogger's Quilt Festival Fall 2013}

Its time again for the Blogger's Quilt Festival Fall 2013 hosted by Amy's Creative Side , thanks Amy for doing all this to organize it! I thought maybe, I'd enter my favourite quilt in the category of: Favorite hand quilted quilt Please vote for my Canadian Birds in the category of Hand Quilting. You may have seen this one in past posts of mine and its really a dream come true to have in on my bed all winter long. I'm itching for snow to come, then it can come permanently on the  bed for the winter. My hubby and I have a 'thing' about 'warm' quilts. He's the furnace and I'm the chillin cold feet person. This quilt entitled "Canadian Birds" is my own design, hand quilted by me and it took me about 6 1/2 months of hand quilting in the evenings only, to complete the whole hand quilting. But there is so much more to this quilt. It endured 5 home relocations across one end of British Columbia and many starts...

Northern B.C Hand Quilting Celebration

Carli Heinrichs, from Telkwa, British Columbia, Canada  I started hand quilting after I attended a quilt show in Washington about 15 years ago while participating with a carpool of quilters from Republic, Wash. I can't remember where it was, but I watched the Governor's Award recipient do her hand quilting demo. I was so amazed and realized that it just took lots of practice. I thank this lady for my start. First up is my precious Altered Magic Tiles, I couldn't seem to just stick with it where the instructions said to stop.  Up next is the mega projects written about in this post "Canadian Birds and Giveaway" which I posted about on July 4th, 2012.  Its on our bed over the winter. This quilt is filled with a light layer of wool batting. It was dense in some places to quilt and easy peasy in others. But I recommend it if you like to sleep in a cool room warm and toasty under a wool lined quilt. A retreat friend of mine took t...
