Mexacali Heat Progressing onto Borders!

Image
When I first  moved to Telkwa many 14 years ago now, I met up with some wonderful ladies who quilt and I participated with one Round Robin quilt exchange with them. We all met one evening and as we distributed our brown paper bags going around the room and I handed off my quilt to the person on my right and we began. Each participant's name was entered into a ledger of the event to keep track of who would be the next participant for your starting block. As I have posted before, I made this quilt top with 5 or 6 other quilters in a Round Robin. Its a tough project to find and design a finishing border for it because its so "WOW -ish" you know? It has languished like many others in a bin waiting for me to get on with it! But I didn't due to life getting in the way of quilting. Well I've made some progress on this quilt, in the form of a graph paper design for a border. More on that later. I made this block when I received all the var...

Simple Scrappy Dresden Table Runner

Image
This is a fast table runner and getting to machine quilting it this weekend. Prepare 38 hexies in 2 in. EPP using a variety of scraps. Arrange and hand piece these scrappy little hexies  onto the two solid colored 12 .5 in. blocks like this in the photo below. Using a pleasing stitch on your sewing machine, sew around the outside edge to secure the hexie block to the background. I used black thread machine blanket stitch. Turn your 12.5 in. square red color for my version. Tie off stitches on the backside. With small but sharp scissors, cut away the red fabric from the shape of your Hexie Block. This is one for my table! Playing with fabric postcards for friends, maybe sell some at Sooke Craft Sale. Playing is the name of the game. That's all for now, work of writing and editing is still going on. Happy Quilting!

Hand Quilting Modern Makeover

Image
Last night it was a little crazy weather time. High winds, blowing snow and then we lost power. We had no Internet last night or today either. So please enjoy my little wee post. And I've had such lovely comments from soo many people, it's a humbling feeling to read what others think of my work. It is work to me. With getting used the various back issues that have suddenly arrived in my life, I do more sitting. I know that sitting is all the biggest threat to health, but what is a person to do? I work hard on making myself feel valued and cared about and this blog does serve that feedback loop of friends and sisters from far away who enjoy what I do. Thank you to all the various sisters I have around the world, thank you!! Happy slow quilting has become my new mantra!
