Catching up on Quilty 365

Hello folks! Happy Summer to everyone.  I feel like I've been dwelling inside a mushroom lately with all the family stuff going on, its been a tad busy! But you knew, sooner or later, I'd be back in the saddle again, blogging and designing again. I want to share the various mumbling I've had over the past months and all the craft related fun I've been having anyway! This new shrug of mine looks  better on me, but I'm not so hot taking photos of myself yet. So you get the idea. I found the pattern in 2016 Spring issue of a crochet magazine bought at The Wool Shop in Victoria and sadly can't connect with that magazine right now, so I can't share the designer. This shrug is very easy to do and lovely to wear, very snugly and its adjustable to fit your measurements.  If you click on the link on the word shrug, you'll visit a site with loads more of crochet patterns that keep calling me back to crochet. Also, you can visit the page in ...

What Goes Around, Comes Around

As you know, I've been working on multiple quilting projects! And this has been going on for years. I've sewn and quilted all the way through raising a family and working full time.  We, the young couple grew older together.  Our children became adults and moved into their own lives. We are doing something that most families don't do, its live together! Now, this is very funny when I hear about parents talking about their college graduates moving back home and don't leave again.  That is another whole subject, this is our sons saying "come, move in with us" When parenting our sons in the early years, we made a commitment to holding each \Sunday evening, a family meeting.  We've returned to what worked for us in the past. Communication is key in this plan and these are the things keeping me busy outside of quilting. All of my sewing machine type sewing is packed and ready to be moved. I can only do hand work and th...

Mug Rug Blog Hop Finale

Image
Welcome! I'm so glad you are joining me! Its "Mug Rug Blog Hop" week With Diane Gilliard and this is my day to share what I've been up to in preparing to participate with fun EPP blog hop! I have read this whole book now. I am drawn to the style of it actually, Diane has written this self help book in an interesting way. I laughed when I read that Diane is not a fan of patterns and prefers to make her own design, me too! *******My 1/4 HST Square Hexie Block Tutorial******** These blocks are sewn together before hand and then pieced together to form this "Steam Punk" kind of look. I liked the idea of a mug rug and have someone special in mind for them as a gift. I chose to learn how to reconstruct my own EPP shape and put it all together. I was a wee bit weak at the knees a couple of times just stressing about all my UFO's and patterns on the go that my mind went back to some good advice on what to do about your UFO's...

Hexie Portable Project

Image
I fell right in love with hexagon quilts made by Karen over at Fairies and Fibres.  Karen is so generous and helpful, I'd just love to get in the car and do a road trip, really! But in the meantime, I needed to get some supplies. Alas, my supplies in my temporary studio are a tad lacking. So off I went down the road to this lovely little shop in the Cordova Bay shopping center called "Calico Cupboard" and wow, you'll be surprised when you walk in this shop! First of all, they use paper bags to package up your purchases! And then they carefully fold everything into this neat little package. Thanks Suzanne! And I'm carefully organizing some choice birthday gift for Mr. Goodearthquilting! Now, getting back to Karen's work with Hexie's. I really love the work she does by hand on the majority of her quilts. Karen has proven her worth with hexie quilts. I learned about her most recent quilt along Millefiori QAL over at Kat...

#Hexagone Crazy

Image
I really love hexie projects and when they find there way to my hands from a garage sale I'm ecstatic.  Then I simply hand appliqued the antique hexie's onto a lime green background.  As you can see this is simple piecing, but I feeling frisky and it could be the cooler temperatures! My table is strewn with scraps and its coming together so well, that I'm waiting to show you more after its all done! Happy Quilting!

Progress on my new Hexie

Image
This is a new project and its still in the process of coming together. I know most quilters start with a plan, perhaps even a sketch or two on graph paper on your IPhone. But I prefer to begin where I am, still desiring the perfect improv quilt. This is the first one hand appliqued onto a lime green okshot cotton, I believe. Its not linen, but feels strong but softer some how. I'm guessing on the origin of this fabric as it was thrifted from a set of luxury curtains. More later, have a happy day!

A Modern Quilter

Image
I love finding new modern quilters who are doing things I like to read about and of course, when it comes to hexie project, this modern quilter caught my eye. This project comes from "A Quarter Inch from the Edge" out of the Maritimes of eastern Canada.
