Simple Scrappy Dresden Table Runner

Image
This is a fast table runner and getting to machine quilting it this weekend. Prepare 38 hexies in 2 in. EPP using a variety of scraps. Arrange and hand piece these scrappy little hexies  onto the two solid colored 12 .5 in. blocks like this in the photo below. Using a pleasing stitch on your sewing machine, sew around the outside edge to secure the hexie block to the background. I used black thread machine blanket stitch. Turn your 12.5 in. square red color for my version. Tie off stitches on the backside. With small but sharp scissors, cut away the red fabric from the shape of your Hexie Block. This is one for my table! Playing with fabric postcards for friends, maybe sell some at Sooke Craft Sale. Playing is the name of the game. That's all for now, work of writing and editing is still going on. Happy Quilting!

Modern Table Runner Finish!

This Modern Table Runner has been so much fun to make and to machine quilt. Yes, this little quilt has been happening over several days of little bits here and there. For more on this pop over to the first post on this table runner! About the only organizing that I did was to seek out pink from my fat quarters. I just love Free Spirit Fabrics. I do hope that Micaela will love this and use it often. When I looked at this, I knew it needed more solid colors around the outside. Anyone can make a lovely Modern Table Runner like this, you know! Its just deciding to go ahead and be brave and take a few risks.  I fell in love with this Dupont Silk , it washed like a dream. And it looks lovely against my new flooring in the studio and bathroom. Machine quilting it was no big deal compared to other fabrics I use. It was a good fit. Modern Table Runner progress

Table Runner's are great and pretty simple to make if using the Improv methods out there in Blogland. This one got started using up left over blocks from  Burkley's Quilt  which I made for my newly minted Grand Nephew. In my learning of how to create these blocks using Sujata's methods of improv methods from her book, Cultural Fusion Quilts. The blocks that didn't quite turn out correctly in my opinion, were the base of this Modern Table Runner. I had no real plan and soon these blocks became a very long table runner and I knew exactly where this new table runner belonged. But more on that later. this is going to be machine quilted today! Yeah!!

My sister is one of my best supporters. She loves my creativity! This little table runner started with a bundle of 11x9 cuts and who knows how long ago I purchased. The colors of this table runner are more fall colors. Happy Quilting!
