Now a little vintage cloth Japanese inspiration!

Ok, I admit it, I was slightly distracted the past week and I missed posting at least one new post each week. But I had good reason! Our northern temperatures dipped wayyyyyyy down to -38 C and I was back and forth between the barns and the house all week! It was so cold, I couldn't just grab any old  jacket and check the chickens! I had to have: all over my face touque, with drawstring for the tiny opening so I can see then another touque over that my serious ice fishing insulated pants two sweaters under my big yard coat my double thickness work mits my two puffs on my puffer before I go outside at these temperatures So now, you can see why I was a little distracted. I had rest up in between just to do the next shift! But thankfully I'm able to report that we are back to normal winter temperature of -10 C so all I'm back to posting!  While it was so darn cold that going outside was an ordeal, I started into my favorite Quilt Mania magazines. My UFO Challenge 2012

Image
Come on now, lets pull out the box or the bin with those quilt tops resting and waiting for completion? I tried in 2011 to complete 11 UFO's and I did manage to get quite a five done.   I needed to be reminded of what I actually did complete this past year! I needed a little extra encouragement to go forth and tackle the ones in waiting. So far, the angel quilt and the blue jean circle quilt and the bastardized Mosaic Tiles quilt are the only ones that are finished. I was inspired by  Patchworktimes.com and her challenge of committing to complete UFO's. I did get the machine quilting done on the green log cabin round robin quilt and machine quilted on the colorful log cabin/drunkard's path quilt. They need only the binding, so if I get cracking, I can have two more in 2011. But I have several on the go and not complete. Here is my 2012 UFO List to complete: 1. Merry Modern Christmas (below) is a table runner that will have addit...

Stack and Whack Dresden Plate/Grandmother's Garden Quilt- The Whole Story!

Image
I eluded to the length of time this quilt took to get done. I also eluded to the full story on its beginning, the technique and why it took so long to get the darn thing done, even to this point! Its still needing the corner triangles and the border, stay tuned! This photo was taken at the main lodge at Loon Lake www. loonlake .ubc.ca This quilt will be king size when complete. I bought the whole chunk of fabric, I think it was around 6 m. back in 1997-1998. ( I think it was around a $125 for the main fabric) The print that I chose was a limited edition wildlife print called Canadian Endanged Species. My husband is a wildlife/habitat biologist and he was the reason for the print. I wanted to finally make us a quilt for our own king size bed. I needed a large chunk of fabric because the Stack and Whack Dresden Plate does take a large chunk of fabric for all the various fussy cuts for the Dresden Plate Fans. The class was taught at the Moody Blue Quilters workshop space in C...

Kaffe Fassett, Daisy Jane and Cloud9 Fabric Cotton Give Away

Image
I'm in a quandary! I just can't choose from these backgrounds of organic cotton for the placement of my new Dresden Plate Flowers. As you know I'm all about 'blending' old and new, modern and traditional, ugly or bright and now I need help!  I won't tell you my favourite, but then again I have other favourites, so help me out? Please me know what you think? Is your choice the brown pin dot, the brown, the turquoise or the orange cotton? You could also forward this request to anyone you know who's a quilter, its more fun with more people participating and giving me the help I need? For each and every comment that is posted, your entry goes into the random generator for a lovely bundle of 5 Fat Quarters of both certified organic cotton from Daisy Janie and Cloud9 Fabric and Kaffe's flowery fabric. You can earn a second entry by linking this blog request with your Facebook and/or Twitter and then returning to ...
