Quick Women's Institute Secret Friends

I heard a knock on the door and we live rural, so when it happens and it surprises you, its rate. My WI friend Judy greeted me on the other side of our riverside cabin screen door. Smiling, she announced she was delivering a birthday present to my door from my QWI Secret Friends. This  beautiful bundle arrived wrapped in this colorful fabric wrap and its such a vibrant color group, its simply happy! I wondered what was inside. It took me by surprise and darn it, that is the idea of our rural women's club's way of bonding. Its total fun! These colorful wraps are made by a collective of rural Indian women who work hard and dream  big! The not-for-profit organization is self-funded social enterprise that promotes income for the collective of disadvantaged communities. Women's Institute 2014 Spring Conference

If you went to search online for women's institute you might find the definition of found in  wikipedia  you'd read that it all started in  Llanfairpwllgwyngyll ,  Anglesey  and that  " It had two clear aims: to revitalise rural communities and to encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War". This quilt above was a project by the ladies of Sunshine Valley W.I. to commemorate 100 years of the City of Grand Forks, B.C. My grandmother was a founding member of one of the branches in in or around Chapel-en-le-frith, Darbyshire, England, I'm still on the hunt to find out this exact information. But regardless, she'd be proud of me, I'm sure! Our annual conference was lead by our esteemed President Geneva Wiseman of Southside Branch.  We have a minute of silence for those members who have passed on after another member reads out the accomplishments of those members. Volunteer Efforts Come in All Sizes!

Victoria of Bumble Beans Inc. from New York City lists this lovely tutorial of a star block paper piecing called Triangles Galore! on her blog. I fell in love at first site! I was inspired to paper piece again, just like that, I was busy photocopying again. Victoria is a very generous person, as she inspires quilters new and experienced to embrace our inner voice to find peace and calm. She teaches others to quilt that need a comfort hobby to sooth their tangled nerves.  I can relate to this philosophy, stitching after all was my literal salvation as a child. My mother was often away at hospital. I grew up for many years thinking hospital was a holiday place for "Mommies"! My mother was always happy again after a visit to the hospital. She taught me to sew by hand. I grew into embroidery and started with making doll dresses. I was intrigued from the beginning of sewing and have never left it.
