Smithers Centennial Update-Terri's Golden Script

The Centennial Quilt Project has taken a hiatus for a few weeks before heading down the steep slope to completion of the quilt. A few weeks ago I asked a good friend of mine, Terri of Bulkley Cleaners is she could help me with this challenge for the quilt. She was tasked with coming up with this on a moments notice and under a deadline as well. She exceeded my expectations! For sure, the notion of community spirit is never more truthful when taking on a big project. Community spirit for the Smithers 2013 year of celebration is high and many projects are going on through out the year.  Terri's unique professional embroidery machines are top of the line and created the following words for the quilt. These letters are about 2-3 inches in the tallest letters. The letters that will grace this auspicious quilt will not appear to be so 'large' when their final position is found in the finished quilt. Volunteer Efforts Come in All Sizes!

Victoria of Bumble Beans Inc. from New York City lists this lovely tutorial of a star block paper piecing called Triangles Galore! on her blog. I fell in love at first site! I was inspired to paper piece again, just like that, I was busy photocopying again. Victoria is a very generous person, as she inspires quilters new and experienced to embrace our inner voice to find peace and calm. She teaches others to quilt that need a comfort hobby to sooth their tangled nerves.  I can relate to this philosophy, stitching after all was my literal salvation as a child. My mother was often away at hospital. I grew up for many years thinking hospital was a holiday place for "Mommies"! My mother was always happy again after a visit to the hospital. She taught me to sew by hand. I grew into embroidery and started with making doll dresses. I was intrigued from the beginning of sewing and have never left it. Women's Institute-Quilts in our bones!

Everyone doesn't know about my favorite non-profit organization, BC Women's Institute , its a  76 yr young women's organization in BC with ties in all of Canada and the world . If you wish to know more about this powerful women's organization, go to this link Our district is the Bulkley Tweedsmuir W.I. and we have a Spring Conference each year held in one of our community's. This year it was the lovely hamlet of Hazelton. Delegates and members attended with our various items for the spring judged competition, this year it was Banana Bread, Flavoured Vinegars, a hanging mobile, recycled hat, handmade framed photo. Here is Nola Weston, our Treasurer of Quick WI holding up her handmade new rendition of our QWI banner.
