New Projects and a new Magazine- Piecework

Image
Good Morning Ladies and Gents, Them or They! Its been hot as blazes in Duncan, B.C. this past couple of weeks, we went from spring time cloudy days of 22-25 degrees to 32 to 35 and not a cloud anywhere! Enough on the weather. I wanted to catch you all up on more projects that I've been up to in my stitching life. I don't know about you, but this self isolation has not been tough. I like being on my own, stitching away, chatting on IS and sorting through projects way too long to talk about that are still not finished. But County Claire blocks are busy evening blocks, getting these done so I can place them into quilt for my sister.Of course, she doesn't know this and we won't tell her, will we?? As you can see, I'm really out on a limb of getting creative using up what I have in my stash. I do have an overall GOLD color that is the general directions for her new quilt. And I highly recommend this new magazine cause its cool! Upcycling is becoming mainstream. Due to th...

Happiness Quilt Finished

Image
This quilt is finally a real comletely finished quilt on my bed! We started using it Nov 30th,2019 as the coolness of wet air, brisk winds and rain began to come on often and for days at a time. Sometimes, I wonder what a monsoon is like? 😊 I wanted the scrappy old fashioned feel that took me to a thoughtful place. This quilt is my second personal king sized quilt to make. These blocks could write a romance novel. They could giggle like a school girl from the compliments of men. They were the remnants of a bag of fabric I bought at a thrift store many years ago. Perhaps in the Kootenay Country in the 1990's. Many of these were hand pieced while sitting waiting for my Skeema River fish bell to go off! Many blessed memories that now, my husband I look back on fondly.  These blocks were not "planned" to be scrappy, they just were, simple as that. Ideas, ideas and then moving twice was not fun. This poor quilt just kept on getting left in the b...

Scrappy Dresden!

Image
Do you remember this wild bunch of Scrappy Dresden Blocks? Recently, I was ready Mary Huey's post on finishing up half done projects.  She inspired me and this project is on again. These are all blocks that were quickly picked without any plan what so ever!  In my mind, I was thinking about getting onto a full sized quilt.  I dreamed of seeing these Scrappy Dresden blocks in a quilt laying across our kind size bed. Like this king sized Canadian Birds quilt. If you have yet to play around with Dresden Plate blocks or 1/4 corner fan blocks, then check out this tutorial I did on the method I use to make up all my Dresden plate blocks.  I do normally hand applique the Dresden plates to their background block. But sometimes, I just want to get it done and move on machine applique which is way faster for me. This is where I believe that something really mellow colored fabric for sashing between these Dresden blocks is in order. ...

Circles that Charm

Image
I had done a few quilty items in circles when I discovered  "Quilty 365" late last year. I do love how life goes around in circles. I'm realizing I have a thing for cirlces! Dresden Circles. Blanket stitched circles too! Street art going in cirlces! Happy Quilting!

Taking a Few Stitches

Image
I love a Dreseden Plate quilt right up there with Log Cabin quilts. This one is coming together rather slow, but its feeling very organic as I've slowed down and calmed my creative spirit. Thanks to the movement of my followers or should I say to the "evacuation" of followers from this blog. I felt sad to see them go,but what can you do. I can't please or be attractive to everyone! Life and art are not meant to be carved out daily like machines! Taking the stitches as they come, watching them prance peacefully with happiness in their step across my work is a joy! Go in Peace.

New Stash -Modern Zippered Pouches

Image
I had to order these online from Mad About Patchwork's sale page.   http://www.madaboutpatchwork.com/CLEARANCE.html Wow, great prices and easy, friendly delivery. They just felt like the backgrounds I'm looking for my new little Dresden Plates. You might also remember that I was on a stash purchases fast. I am over it now.  I have one of those cute little zippered bags I showed in the post "Get in Gear Zippered Pouch"  where I used some of my stash. But I'm thinking about Christmas gifts now and these would be perfect for girl friends who sew! I won a great double zippered pouch from  http://cadouri-din-inima.blogspot.ca/2013/07/2-in-1-zippered-pouch.html   and I recommend you visit this Romanian wonder of design. The photo below is Geta's Pattern. This is another pouch pattern that I'm giving this new fun pattern and I'll write up a review of it as I go so you can see it. So that's what I'm up to today. I...
