African Crochet Flower

Image
As you know, my life is filled with fibre in one way or another. And I've been having a sweet time checking out interesting things online. Recently, I found this sweet little new crochet flower! Its called the African Crochet Flower Thanks to Canadian Living for this cute finish photo of the African Crochet Flower. I just love playing with yarn, threads and fabric. Beads also come into this and now I'm into making jewelry!  What do you think of my radical wrist cuffs. These are just the first and more are coming along, they'll be posted in my new upcoming Etsy Shop.  And then reflection from all of my hand embroidery has made me rethink where I'm going. Just how much hand embroidery and hand stitching can I do anymore. Its such a pain to have to wear wrist support all the time.  Plus I'm working on some cute NEW Christmas "Snow Town Folk" patterns that I published in the Canadian Quilters Connection back in 2011.  ...

Snow Town Folk Quilt Along Invitation

Image
In the fall of 2011, I completed my first real pattern, tested with two versions and two suggested layouts. I am so fortunate that a pattern of my own creation was chosen for inclusion in western Canada's magazine Quilters Connection . winter issue. Heather Macauther, publisher is an awesome entrepreneur and loves my work too! I've designed all sorts of patterns that I make for myself, friends and family. If you'd like to join in an upcoming Snow Town Folk quilt along, just email me directly at carli the quilter (at) gmail (dot) com This pattern was inspired by the many types of head wear I see in the winter months while ice fishing with my husband.  Ice fishers are a special kind of fisher in my opinion. They are special because they brave the cold temperatures, lug all kinds of gear miles down a lake, sometimes they have a shelter, but most times they are simply after the experience and the fresh wild fish in the winter months!  Salmon, the main fis...

My Life is CraZy!

Image
I stand with my hands on my hips, the garden is in and organized, the sun shone all around me, as I listened to the sweet sound of songbirds.  1. I'm hand quilting a king size quilt, with a deadline of June 30 to add it into the local quilt show! As of today, I've still got three borders and two corners to go. I started in late December 2011. 2. As the leader of the pack of artists who have rallied around making a once in a lifetime quilt, the deadline for all the artists to have their block handed in to me is June 30th also!  I'm not showing the blocks yet, just the one I'm making and this is it. Its a bust of Sir Alfred Smithers who our  main town of Smithers is named after. He was in the employ of Grand Trunk Railway and assisted in the completion of the railroad which helped promote the growth and development of Smithers in the Northwest BC region. Snow Town Folk New Quilt Pattern

Image
Everything has a start and this is a little story about how I came to be making a new quilt pattern. The pattern is called "Snow Town Folk" and it will be available until the new year by subscription to Quilters Connection Magazine. I was busy hand quilting my sons graduation quilt back in 2007.  You know, I was really busy, the winter was long and hard and I made some notes, a few drawings and then put it aside. I was working at the time, so little time to create anything. I continued to hand quilt my sons graduation quilt.   Then as 2010 began, I was was rethinking my future, where was I going to be in ten years kind of reflecting! You know what I mean? I'm sure that all of us do this once in a while.  Anyway, I began playing with what fabrics I'd use and you know I love to blend wool with cotton, velvet with silk and so on. I located the reuse wool selections in my stash and it kind of grew from there. I plugged away, measuring, dreaming and writi...
